Just Keep Rowing...

manybrains answered your question: When Rowing just isn’t worth it…

Because the 4am wake up time is not the thing that is not conducive to your academic performance. Not going to bed early enough is.

Because i’m taking 21 credits, i was forced to take night classes, i don’t get done with class until 10 pm, 2 hours at least of homework. and then gotta wake up at 4 for practices. it’s just a shitty circumstance

Because of the feeling of taking a pefect stroke… perfectly in time.. because ur friends, because it pushes u to ur limit like nothing else

i wish i could say anyone on the team was a friend of mine. i never onced rowed because of friends. and the way the team’s practices are scheduled, i’m not physically capable of taking it to my limit. i can’t get healthy with such a demanding class schedule and early practices.

Love of the sport? But I’ve thought the same things about my team. I recommend trying your local junior club team if you do end up quitting.

te problem with that is. how can i row for…

Oh wow, that’s rough. My reasoning behind love of sport is I honestly cannot imagine NOT being involved in crew. How about coaching or assistant coaching a high school team? (that is if you want to stay involved in the sport at this point) I’m a high school rower/coxswain and we’re desperate for a good coach.

Can you go to your athletic director, or an athletics governing board at your school?

i wish there were enough high school programs in massachusetts that there were high school teams arounf my school at all. and going to the athletic director has failed in the past. the coach has kicked a few kids off the team who complained to the administration due to their “lack of dedication”

te problem with that is. how can i row for the love of the sport, when conforming to their schedule kills my academic performance, and keeps me from being healthy enough to row my best?

and the closest club to me is in boston, and i’m a collegiate rower, so a juniors club wouldn’t work. and i don’t have a car to drive an hour and a half into boston just to row. i really wish i did though. i love the charles river.

When Rowing just isn’t worth it…

i think i’m quitting my schools crew team.

idk, it just isn’t worth it. the coach is completely ununderstanding asshole.

i got flipped out on for missing a 5 am practice, when i could barely breathe when i woke up because i’m sick.

the coach plays favorites with who gets to row. even though i’m one of the better rowers on the team, i’m not in the varsity A 4+.

the kid who is rowing in my spot, never rows his hardest, always gives up, and even at his best, can’t match my erg times.

not to mention the constant infighting on the team. the incesant drama created by the girls team. and the downright lack of proffesionalism from the coaching staff. waking up at 0400 to get to practice in the morning is simply not conducive to my academic performance, or my health. and the coaches just won’t budge and let us practice after school instead.

it’s a shame. because i thouroughly enjoy crew and rowing. and love the sport more than anything.

but i guess it’s just not in the cards for me right now.

any reasons i should stay?

We had the first official practice of the season this morning…

12 minutes at 28spm for the warmup.

12 minutes at 26, 1 minute at 36 every 4 minutes.

12 minute core circuit.

15 minutes, 5 minutes at 26, 4 at 28, 3 at 30 2 at 32, and 1 at 36.

15 minute core circuit.

30 minutes on the paddle for a cool down

ERGING TOMORROW

ftw… 0430 wake up to meet the coach at the gym at 0500

While watching the Social Network
Movie: That was one race it doesn't matter, that was a fair race, Zuckerberg stole our idea. (or something like that)
Josh: You know... that's the wrong attitude. You don't say "We lost, but it was a good race." you say "We lost goddammit we need to do better next time."
Matt: yeah, because crew is more important that EVERYTHING, especially a billion dollar website
Josh: Isn't it?

sorry i haven’t posted in a while everybody, i’ve just been wicked busy with school and some personal shit. but here’s my welcome back to the world.

i just got wind of an army thing i have to do the weekend of CRASH B’s, and i won’t be able to row in them. epic sadface

Sprint Season. 2000meter races. Nothing is more intense, more physically challenging that putting yourself, 7 other girls, and one coxswain in a boat against other teams. At a regatta, you spend hours just waiting for that one, maybe more, race to come along. Just waiting for your moment to come…

Nice blog. Thanks for following. :]
Where did you find my blog?

haha, i actually found you on StumbleUpon… i thought i was following with my other blog though, i’ll do that now, www.thedishonesttruth.tumblr.com

hey, nice blog, I'm a coxswain and rower for my high school. Have to say it is by far the most enjoyable sport and a very enjoyable recreational thing to do in general.

thanks! glad you enjoy it
